今天最讓人注目的新聞，莫過於羅馬天主教教宗本篤十六世（Pope Benedict XVI ）宣佈於今年（2013年）2月28日退位。
最讓人留意的，並不因他是數百年來第一位在世退位的教宗，而是與天主教末日預言扯上關係。
原因是天主教於12世紀愛爾蘭的阿馬總主教－－聖瑪拉基（Saint Malachy）－－曾看到最後審判之前 112 位教宗的影像，他隨後列出了一連串的人物清單，經後人整理後，便是有名的《教宗預言》（英語：Prophecy of the Popes），或稱聖瑪拉基預言。現任的本篤十六世就是第111 任教宗，即是最後一任教宗前的一位，所以下一位教宗（第112任），就是帶領天主教信徒進入末後大災難（世界末日）。
所以留意末日預言的人，都會留意現任的教宗會在甚麼時候離世或退任。
那麼，最後一任教宗的預言是怎樣？

On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the village of Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut. Before driving to the school, Lanza had shot and killed his mother, Nancy Lanza, at their Newtown home. As first responders arrived, Lanza committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
The incident was the second-deadliest school shooting in United States history, after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre. It also was the second-deadliest mass murder at an American elementary school, after the 1927 Bath School bombings in Michigan.
The shooting prompted renewed debate about gun control in the United States, and a proposal for new legislation banning assault weapons and magazines with more than ten rounds of ammunition.
